Subconchsia - A world of minds
The assignment here was to take three smallish objects and use them to inspire an alien world, and what I came up with I decided to call 'Subconchsia', because one of the items here is a conch shell and the world has a lot to do with minds. The other two are a slice of cheesecake and a mask.
The ecosystem of this world is based on conch-shell resembling aliens that nest in the center of this delicious cakey planet, dreaming. As they dream, the surface shifts and changes, cycling from cakey material into gold filigree.
This project was designed to test our abstraction abilities. Mine got voted the one most people wanted to do, so then for the next phase of it five classmates helped me make a video exploring this world, which was quite nice because I had no idea how to use video editing software at the time. (I just drew the backgrounds and modeled the critters)

A conch shell - The hub of the ecosystem
A mask - used to inspire what happens to the cakey earth when it's pressurised and rises into the sky.
The SubConch Alien - it grows on the surface, feeding on its inhabitants to a point where it acquires tentacles and burrows. Eventually it becomes a pulsating, brainlike structure within the heart of the world.
Crawling Lantern - A dangerous predator that dwells in Forests, eating the young conch aliens.
Touch Dragon - a creature that lives in the cake environment, that cannot see on its own. They try to become infested by enough Fung-eye to see their way around.
Fung-eye - the largest hazard to any humans who'd think to invade Subconchsia. They are used to burrowing into the flesh of creatures without pain receptors to help them see.
This shows the cycle of how the cake-like trees eventually waft into the atmosphere to become gold filigree.
Overconch - These guys live in the gold filigree and are technically the same species as the Subconchs, and see things with their many Fung-eye for the subconchs to dream about. They routinely seed the earth below with baby subconchs.
