This was the final advanced character design work we did, the object being to model an alien witch doctor in Zbrush, screenshot it at different lighting levels and then Mask those lights to different levels in Photoshop.
I had just modeled some messed up humanoid zombies, and wanted to make something else. I hadn't drawn a dragon in a long time and started sketching this dude.
I imagine this creature as one of a many draconid races, each crafted by some different primordial dragons in their own image. Some cataclysmic event caused their masters to die, leaving them to wander their world alone. They begin to think for themselves, forming their own tribes, but as a price they become weaker over the generations, their horns shrinking, their skin becoming soft and gray.
This draconid's eyes have gone almost entirely blind, from spending too long underground, as his body no longer built to go for millennia without sunlight. He wears his great grandfather's bones to remember.
