Mars Garden

For a History of Landscape Architecture class, me and Ian Cline, a Landscaper had to make a Martian Garden. This was a very fun project where we combined our skills to create a garden inspired by the things we'd learned about in that class. Here you can see the influence of French Chateaus, Muslim Qanats and the Taj Majal. Our project won first in 2/3 categories and we won ourselves some Landscape Architecture books.

Ian had the wonderful idea of putting our project from Sketchup into Lumion, which really made the star patterns in the concrete come to life.

Here you can see it with its big oxygen bubble, and the qanat leading up into the hillside next to it.

There are little wells of water, tapping into an underground reservoir throughout the garden.

Here you can really see the radial pattern.

And the constellations we chose glowing brightly, that might remind one of what they could see from Earth. This was sort of inspired by Alhambra, because there are constellations paintings in some of their rooms that would remind its residents of home.

This is the original schematic I made for the tiling.

And this is an aid we used in our presentation to BS - I mean explain how we could use an ancient technology to harvest water while we are on Mars.
